Tea Time Treats
Afternoon Tea originated as a "bridge" between the light lunches and late dinners served in the early 1800s. This tea time would start anywhere between 3-4 pm. The tradition was established by Anne, Duchess of Bedford for her request of light sandwiches to help eliminate her "sinking feeling". Was this Anne preventing herself from getting Hangry? Or maybe she just had lots of feelings?
Today I have enjoyed many afternoon teas as a fun way to talk and decompress with my daughters after school. Most kids hold in their emotions, trying to be on their up most best behavior all day. I have found hosting an Afternoon Tea allows my girls something to stay excited for on their way home. It allows for a safe space to share about their day and unwind. These Afternoon teas sometimes last 10 minutes, and other days last an hour. I have 3 girls and we all can have lots of feelings some days!
Afternoon Tea usually Is an elaborate affair with finger sandwiches and an array of scones, cakes, macaroons and other bits to nibble. Break out the Napkins, or serviette , Place them in your laps. Act the part! use a British accent and watch laughter flow around the table. This little bit of fun may just be the bit of medicine every one needed today.
